A blog to get Spinal Tap into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (and whatever else I want it to be about)

Spinal Tap Snubbed (Again)

Today the RnRHoF announced its nominees for the 2012 induction.  They’re listed below.  I have a couple of thoughts.  First of all, I really need to pick up the pace of my blogging.  I’m just a little past the halfway point of the first round.  At this rate, I’ll get this tournament done in time for the 2012 induction ceremony (or maybe the 2012 apocalypse).

Secondly, I’m kinda mixed on the nominations.  Good on you for the Beastie Boys, RHCP, The Cure, Freddie King, G’n’R, & Eric B & Rakim.  Not at all surprised by The (Small) Faces — although they’re more famous for what some of their members did afterwards, and Donovan — kinda surprised he wasn’t in already.

Otherwise, nominating Joan Jett & the Blackharts is kinda like nominating Wings.  Heart?  Okay, they’re in the tournament, I’ll go with it.  Laura Nyro?  I should know more of her work, and the songs of hers I do know its through other groups covering them, so, okay.  Rufus with Chaka Khan?  While I do wanna rock ya Chaka Khan, Chaka Khan, I wanna rock ya, that’s all I want to do, I can’t say I so much wanna rock Rufus.  I do love me some War, but I don’t know if their contribution to music extends beyond Eric Burdon and the lowrider culture (I’d vote for them, however).  Donna Summer?  Love to love ya baby, but rock and roll?  The Spinners?  ‘Rubberband Man’ is a great song and they had a few big years, but I dunno.

Who didn’t make it this year?  Aside from the groups in the tourney; Rush, Whitney Houston, Moby Grape, Fishbone, Roxy Music, Judas Priest,Todd Rundgren, Meat Loaf, Kraftwork, Bad Religion, The Ohio Players, The Monkees, The Go-go’s, and bunches more that I think would be on the same level as Heart, The Spinners, and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, The Faces (small or otherwise) or Rufus.  But worst of all, no Spinal Tap!

What do you think?  Comments are appreciated.

Beastie Boys The Cure Donovan Eric B. & Rakim Guns ‘N Roses Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Freddie King Laura Nyro Red Hot Chili Peppers Rufus with Chaka Khan The Small Faces/The Faces The Spinners Donna Summer War

In the meantime, I’ll continue with the tournament.  Two groups in the tourney have gone on to the second round, and there are two more nominees coming up  The next match-up, in fact involves a nominee.  However, it doesn’t really matter who the HoF nominates, it’s about who you, the great unwashed masses (all 5 of you who read my blog regularly), think should be in the hall.  And I’ll try to finish up this thing before too long, so I can move on with my life.
